ADAT Alcohol and Drugs Conference, 28 August 2007, Civic Centre, Motherwell

The purpose of the day was to showcase the available alcohol and drug services within Lanarkshire. Preliminary evaluation had indicated that the conference was very well received and a full formal evaluation will be published in the near future.

Lanarkshire Naloxone Pilot, 22nd February 2007

After 15 months planning and preparation the Lanarkshire Naloxone Pilot (the first of its kind in Scotland) got underway with frontline drug service staff, users and their peers being trained in basic life support, the unconcious patient and naloxone adminisatration. On succesful completion of the course participants will be supplied by a single shot of 0.4mg naloxone. Each participant will be followed up over the next 12 months to monitor the experience of managing their own supply of the drug with a view to a wider distribution in 2008.

This event invited a cross-section of Lanarkshire people to come and participate in a debate on issues relating to alcohol. Kaye Adams from Scottish Television's "Loose Women" hosted the event.

Getting Our Priorities Right/Hidden Harm Event 3rd February 2004

This event, held at Hamilton Academicals Stadium, saw the launch of the new local implementation procedures relating to Getting Our Priorities Right. This gave representatives from the key committees the opportunity to discuss these in the context of recent research into the effects of substance misuse and parenting.

Mind the Gaps Seminar 22nd January 2004

Following the recent issue of Mind the Gaps, the report from the Joint Working Group on meeting the needs of people with co-occurring substance misuse and mental health problems, this lunchtime seminar provided an opportunity for mental health and substance misuse staff to discuss local issues and developments.

Young People Seminar - 3rd June 2003

Following on from the successful ADAT Research into Action event held in October 2002, a seminar on best practice for working with young people was held in East Kilbride on 3rd June 2003. The seminar included inputs from the EIU, Lloyds TSB and the ADAT Education Sub-group who are currently evaluating and updating educational materials for young people and parents/carers.

Lanarkshires Plan for Action on Alcohol Stakeholder Event 16th & 17th January 2003

As part of the development of the Plan for Action on Alcohol, a Stakeholder Event was held at the Police Training College in East Kilbride. The event aimed to bring together a range of stakeholders in the development of an action plan for alcohol in Lanarkshire and to provide a context including:
Political/Policy Framework
Economic issues
Health and Social Issues

Through a series of presentations, discussions and workshops the event introduced the main themes of the plan and provided an opportunity for stakeholders to consider local impact and priorities from their immediate perspective and across Lanarkshire.

Research into Action Conference 8th October 2002

The aim of this conference, held at the James Watt Conference Centre in East Kilbride, was to disseminate both national and local research information relating to:
service provision and policy;
the needs of vulnerable young people; and
the effectiveness of treatment and care services for young people.

The Conference provided an insight into the research findings, and through workshops gained valuable information to work towards an action and implementation strategy.
